India has approximately 14 million blind population of which 60% are due to cataract, which is a surgically curable disease. Because of poverty, illiteracy and ignorance, rural population is more affected as compared to the urban. Shri Ganapati Netralaya has objective to provide quality eye care services to this under privileged population. Area of services provided by Netralaya is not confined to cataract but to treat full spectrum of eye ailments. Charter of Hospital provides provision of 25% of surgeries to be done at no cost for this under privileged population.

Organizing Camps

Shri Ganapati Netralaya conducts camps in remotest of villages. Identification of village and organization of camp is done by Shri Ganapati Netralaya staff with the help of local volunteers. Camp is attended by ophthalmologist, paramedical staff & supporting staff from the hospital. During examination,all the patients with major & minor eye ailments are identified. They are divided in batches according to their needs, convenience all these patients are brought to base hospital; transportation is provided by the hospital. In the hospital they under go detailed examination. Patient selected for surgeries are admitted in the hospital, where they are provided accommodation, treatment, meals & breakfast, all at hospital cost. All these patients are treated on par with paying patients without any discrimination. Even pathological investigation, opinion from other doctors, anesthetist fee is borne by the hospital. After the surgery hospital provides them transportation back to their villages. .
