The National Board of Examination, New Delhi has recognized the centre for training the medical graduates for the Diplomate of National Board (Ophthalmology) conducted by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. Every year 2 MBBS candidates who have passed DNB primary exam are selected for DNB Ophth. Courses starts in February. Also in February 2 post Diploma in Ophthalmology candidates from MCI recognized institute are admitted for 2 years post DO DNB course. Interviews for the above courses will be held in January.
The institute offers fellowships in General Ophthalmology Vitreo retina, glaucoma and cornea. The fellowship in Vitreo retina is of 18 months duration, cornea is of 15 months, while other fellowships are of 12 months duration. The teaching pattern is based on American Residency teaching program. It allows scope for the all-round development of the person. The fellows are supposed to examine patients in regular outpatient department and in emergency. The fellows also have to examine patient preoperatively as well as post operatively, within the hospital as well as during their outpatient department visits. At surgeries, they are given additional responsibilities of assisting the surgeries initially and then to perform surgeries under supervision of seniors. They are given prospective as well as retrospective research projects and are encouraged to utilize the library facilities to the maximum possible. The teaching program includes seminars, journal, clubs, case discussion & medical education program. Special video facilities are available so that they can watch the surgeries.
