Dr. B. R. Barwale
|
Dr. B. R. Barwale was born in Hingoli,
Maharashtra on Ganesh Chaturthi in 1931. He got involved in
the Freedom Movement of India and therefore could not continue
his College Education. With the influence of institutions
like Indian Agricultural Research Institute and Rockefeller
Foundation, he established Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company
Limited in 1964 and thus became a doyen of the Seed Industry
in India. |
As a recognition for his "superior accomplishments
in developing the role of private sees enterprise in India,
Dr. Barwale was aptly felicitated with 12th World Food Prize
in 1998. The President of India awarded him with Padma Bhushan
Award in 2001 for his distinguished service of high order
in the field of Trade and Economic Activity.
Chairman
In 1996, he received the prestigious award
of Honorary Life Membership of FIS which is the International
Apex body of the Seed Industry. In addition, he received recognition
and award from Marathi Vignan Parishad in the year November
1973 and he was entitled as Father of Seed Industry in India
for his outstanding work by Crop Science Society of America. Business
Week recognized him as The Star of Asia on June 14, 1999.
On 14 th March 2002, he received the Honorary Degree of Doctor
of Science ( Honoris Causa ) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural
University. And also, Dr. Barwale received several awards
from different organizations like NGOs, G.O.I. and professional
associations.
Dr. B. R. Barwale is very keen to work with NGO's for elimination
of hunger & poverty particularly so in rural areas. Is
very keen to see the spread of education in rural population
and particularly so of the girls. He has contribution and
is contributing for food and nutritional security of the rural
masses through agricultural production, employment generation
and all application of science and technology.
Dr. Barwale's other main mission in life is to provide the
best care for the eyes. Getting inspiration from the famous
Sankara Netralaya in Chennai, he established, about a decade
ago, the now famous Shri Ganapati Netralaya in Jalna, Maharashtra.
This is the world class facility, was built in an area of
7.5 acres of land with 141 beds, 36 fully equipped consulting
rooms, 9 Operation theatres, fully equipped pathology laboratory,
cafeteria, auditorium, classrooms, pharmacy and other amenities.

Dr
S S Badrinath
|
Born in the year
1940 at Madras, Dr S S Badrinath
graduated from Madras Medical College, Madras in 1963.
He did internship and a year of internal medicine residency
at Glasslands Hospital, New York, USA. Following the study
of Basic Sciences in Ophthalmology at the New York University
postgraduate Medical School, he did residency in Ophthalmology
at the Brooklyn eye and Ear Infirmary, New York, USA and
a Fellowship with Dr Charles Schepens at the Retina Service
of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, Massachusetts,
USA. |
He became a
Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1969
and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1970.
After returning to India, in 1970 he worked as an Honorary
Consultant in Ophthalmology at the Voluntary Health Service
Medical Centre, Madras for 5 years and thereafter as a Consultant
at Vijaya Hospital till 1978.
He founded the Medical & Vision Research
Foundations in Madras in 1978 with an object of practicing
quality eye care in ophthalmology, training and teaching of
Ophthalmology and pursue research in Ophthalmology.
He has organized several Continuing Medical
Education Programmes. He is supported by 52 Ophthalmic Consultants
specialized in various sub-specialties of Ophthalmology to
offer quality ophthalmic care at affordable price under one
roof. The institution had short-term observers from WHO, AIOS
etc, and also had under-graduates from USA, UK, Spain and
other neighboring Asian Countries.
The Medical Research Foundation is affiliated
to Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University and National Board
of Examination, New Delhi for DO and DNB courses; Royal College
of Edinburgh for FRCS and FRCO; Birla Institute of Technical
Sciences, Pilani for MS in Medical Laboratory Technology;
BS in Optometry.
He is the recipient of Padma
Sri Award in 1983. He is the Fellow of Academy of Medical
Sciences, India Honored with Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa)
by Annamalai University, Madras and TamilNadu Dr MGR Medical
University, Madras in 1995. He is the recipient of Padma
Bhushan Award in 1999 and Dhanvantari Award
in 1999. He is the recipient of Rameshwardasji Birla Award,
Qimpro Platinum Standard-Healthcare Award, Dadabhai Naoroji
Memorial Award in 2004, Life Time Achievement Award given
by the International Medical Integration Council & Optimal
Healthcare Group (India) in 2004, Life Time Achievement Award
given by ICFAI in 2005 and he is The Chairman of The Telehealth
Society of India. He was Honorary Ophthalmic Surgeon to the
Past President of India. He is a member of All India Ophthalmological
Society, India; He is a Consultant to Armed Forces and he
is a Non-official member of Armed Forces Medical Research
Committee, India.

Mr. Raju
Barwale was born on December 12, 1955 in Khamgoan. He
graduated in Agriculture from G. B. Pant University of
Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. He has been associated
with Mahyco for over 24 years in various capacities and
his main emphasis has been on Human Resources Development.
He is on the Board
of Management of several companies, trusts and trade
associations. He was appointed as a member on the Oil
and Fiber Seed section Committee of I. S. F., Switzerland
since April 1994. He is an active Rotarian.

Dr. Usha
Zehr
|
Dr. Usha Barwale Zehr is the Joint
Director, Research at Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company
Limited, India. She is responsible for research on plant
biotechnology, technology transfer to farmers, utilization
of new technologies and tools, including biotechnology
for improving the quality and productivity of seeds and
agriculture.
She received her Ph.D. from University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Later, she worked at
Purdue University in the Sorghum improvement program.
For the last eight years, she is involved in the Private
Seed Industry in India.
Director
Dr. Zehr serves on a number of board viz., M.S. Swaminathan
Research Foundation. She was also member of the Technical
Advisory Committee of the CGIAR, other committees such
as the Intellectual Property Committee of the International
Seed Federation. She has been involved in the founding
or functioning of several charitable and educational
organizations including the Shri Ganapati Netralaya
and Barwale educational institutions at Jalna, Maharashtra.

Dr. Pramod S
Bhende completed his medical graduate and post graduate
degree (MS Ophthalmology) from Government Medical College,
Nagpur University in 1986 and in 1990 respectively. He did
fellowship training in Vitreo Retinal surgery at Medical
Research Foundation between 1991 and 1993. He is currently
a senior consultant and deputy director in Vitreo-retina
department in Sankara Nethralaya, a Unit of Medical
Research Foundation. He has published 39 papers in peer
reviewed national and international journals and has also
written 4 chapters in various ophthalmic books. He has
delivered more that 120 presentations in various national
and international conferences. He is Life member of All
India Ophthalmological Society & Vitreo Retinal Society of
India and is also a member of American society of Retinal
Specialists.
